The Earth Biogenome Project has been selected as one of the eleven science stories likely to make big news in 2023. It is an ambitious project that aims to sequence the genome of all the eukaryotic species on the planet.

The Earth BioGenome Project, an umbrella effort that encompasses more than 50 sequencing efforts covering a broad range of organisms,  expects to see 2000 sequences released this year.

The Catalan Initiative for the Earth Biogenome Project is one of the affiliated projects which aims to generate a detailed catalogue of the genome of the eukaryotic species of the Catalan Countries. Our project currently covers 42 species.

Scientists expect the new data will boost comparative genomics studies and provide insights into evolution and life history.

The journal’s list of science stories includes projects from other disciplines, from climate policy, biomedicine, public health, astronomy, geology, infectious diseases, leadership to human origins.
