Xyrichtys novacula
Interest
Species of great cultural and economic importance in the Balearic Islands. Furthermore, model species for the study of the evolutionary implications of fishing on exploited coastal marine populations.
Distribution and origin of the sample
The pearly razorfish inhabits sandy coastal areas of the Mediterranean Sea and temperate waters of the Eastern and Western Atlantic. The sample used in this project was obtained from an individual captured in the Palma Bay Marine Reserve (Llucmajor, Mallorca).
